Zacchaeus tabernacled with joy. He understood the privilege of divine presence and he received it as miraculous. What about us?
How do we approach our daily office? Do we see it as a divine task to be crossed off in duty? Do we wear dour faces and sigh in obligation? Zacchaeus to Jesus into his house happily. The NIV states it: “welcomed Him gladly”.
Friends, no matter how often we might daily office, it is always a privilege to sit with Jesus. Familiarity can corrupt our reception, but it is nevertheless astounding that the King of Kings and Lord of Lords would grace our homes. These sacred moments can rightly become the mile markers of our day – our touch points where we pause with Him for eternal perspective on what otherwise might be seen as ordinary and unimportant. Every minute we spend with Jesus in our frames is an underserved gift; an audience with our benevolent King. How might our attitude change if we received them as such?

Lord, today we are convicted. Please forge us for viewing the Daily Office as an obligation instead of a privilege. It is an awesome opportunity to sit in Your presence, especially that You would grace our heart with Your visitation as often as we request it. Wow! What favor we have found in You! We remain unworthy of Your affection but so undone by Your grace. Please come in again. You are welcome in our humble abode. We don’t possess much, but we avail it all to You with enthusiasm. Tabernacle with us anew. Amen.
