The rest of the country is caught up with Johnny Depp courtroom drama, but I can’t stop thinking about about the Son of God on the stand a couple thousand years ago. The testimony against Jesus was shaky at best; the witnesses couldn’t keep their stories straight and lied like veritable rugs to further their purposes.

This Mother’s Day, I am picturing my happy momma walkingthrough meadows of wildflowers with the One whom her soul loves. I’m imagining her engaging in deep theological discussions where everything Jesus says makes perfect sense and ah-hah moments abound. I can see them, sitting around a table laden with olives and cheese and bread and honey, breaking out in belly laughs when the Father cracks a joke. Conversations linger over long dinners and her soul is strengthened by unbroken fellowship.
Recognize that fear is an enticing apple from the enemy. It seems safe and even reasonable, but partaking will poison our soul. Moreover, realize the Spirit freely offers us the fruit we actually require: power, love and self-discipline.
It is remarkable how the risen, resurrected Savior sits with us in our sorrow.
It’s only natural to fall into the rhythm of the world around us: work, eat, play, sleep. Make a buck or two, spend it; repeat. Sit as center of our own universe. But the Creator has invited us to a higher plan of living. He bids us to wait and work and walk with the Kingdom of God in full view.
When we resist God’s salvation offer, we invite the worst the enemy has to offer into our lives. He sets up ramps against us, readies himself to do battle on every side and sees fit to destroy us completely. But what happens when we surrender first to a loving God and gracious Savior?
Where do we go when our soul suffers wounding? Psalm 119:28 tells us: we climb into the bacta tank of scripture. We find healing in the ancient yet alive promises of God. Our soul is somehow miraculously restored by the lasting power of His holy Word.
We look to to the holy God and we recall how His Kingdom is coming; a Kingdom of righteousness and truth and total restoration.
So often we run from God believing the lie that living for Him will somehow be more miserable than living apart form Him.
