Sin and self mar our every effort. Our short-sightedness interferes with our ability to make sound judgement.

Consider marriage. Our union is successful when we remember to reach for each other. It deteriorates when we begin to reach for other things. The same is true with God. Holding fast includes all seasons and situations. Remarkably, it is absolutely how He holds to us. Do we hold to Him with the same determination?
Job reminds us: we have an obligation to speak the truth about God to our friends. God expects us to be forthright with our knowledge of Him AND accurate in our theology. Anything less injures. Forthright and inaccurate bludgeons the beholder. Timid but accurate won’t accomplish anything Kingdom.
The woman at the well with Jesus was a shameful lady, living in a shameful city, amidst a shameful country. She was buried alive beneath layer upon layer of shame and could hardly lift her head under the weight of it.
So often we get silence from God and we assume He’s left the premises. We interpret stillness as abandonment, when truly, He’s working behind the scenes. We must recall: abandonment is not a part of God’s nature.
