The Creator who cast Cain’s parents from the garden before they ate again and sealed their fate also sent this son into a future long enough for reflection and repentance.

Our great, big, good God is still calling us to stillness.

Rest makes room for repentance. When one slows their soul to God’s speed, they suddenly become aware of all the ways they’ve fallen short. They have time and space to feel the angst in their frame and address the issue. Rest allows for repentance and repentance is the reset button; the presser is awarded another opportunity to live God’s way.
The Israelite priests had crafted Sabbath into a burden by legislation and should-nots but maybe the heart of Sabbath is less about legalities and more about fellowship? Maybe it looks like changing our pace for twenty-four hours and being loved on as God’s kids?
