God’s greatest command is unchanging. And still, we are so bad at it. Why?
This verse in Joshua makes me think about my collecting years versus my assigned task. I am not looking to conquer Texas or unseat any local rulers, but my battles are just about as bloody. They lie within. I consider the size and scope of my heart and soul and I know that there is still a lot of ground to be taken.
Our individual yet collective quarantine has scarred us deeply. We’ve emerged from our couches and houses even more inward-focused. The Non-Playable-Character paradigm has filtered in to real life. Our increasingly narcissistic society views self as the epic-center of existence and everyone lesser as obstacles to the main objective: leveling up.
Seeking is all-encompassing. Seeking God means letting every lesser frivolity fall to second, third, or even last place.
As we age, our tents start to show signs of depreciation. But old age and even death is not the end of our story: one day soon, we’ll trade in these canvas coverings for eternal dwellings: homes of brick and mortar.
Our God and King rises before we do, He sets a table with spiritual food each morning in high hopes that we will come and dine with Him. How often do we leave the manna untouched?
As parents, our primary job is child-rearing is to bring our children to Jesus.
