God’s goodness and His long game feel pretty trite in the face of tragedy.
If we spend the whole of our life on our children, what will we have when they test their wings and fly away?
The psalmist points out the ongoing faithfulness and affection of our God. I think about the Israelites and the way we know God blew apart the waters on their behalf, but I also recall that God ‘remembered’ Noah and his family in the flood. Additionally, He ‘remembered’ Joseph in prison. Not that our heavenly Father ever misplaces us or goes on without us, but it seems at the appointed time, He remembers. He steps in and miracles happen.
God is not slow in keeping His promise, we are slow in letting His promise keep us. The the journey slows down, it is grace so we can catch up to where God longs for us to live: unafraid, totally devoted, excited about the future with Him.
Zechariah sings in the Spirit of the redemption of man; first his own and then humanity’s.
I suspect the Magnificat chased Mary down through every day of her journey as mother to Jesus.
Remembering God’s past performance record is the means by which we build our faith for today.
In spite of His unwavering faithfulness, we still struggle to trust.
