“Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills with light.” (Matthew 6:22 MSG)
This passage of scripture makes me think again about Ann Voskamp’s 1000 Gifts. I read her book the year my mother passed. Ann’s gentle wisdom helped me focus on the steady stream of gifts from heaven despite the dark days. Without her insight, I may have missed God’s presence in those midnight hours of the soul.
Wonder and belief fill our souls up with light. We only really see what we are looking for. We can walk through life with our eyes downcast, letting very little light in. Or we can walk with our heads up, our eyes open, surveying the land for the goodness of God. And we’ll find it! He’s everywhere! There is evidence of His love for us all over creation of we’ll simply start to pay attention.
“By taking a long, thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes can’t see; eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of a divine being.” (Romans 1:19 MSG)
“I’m sure now I’ll see God’s goodness in the exuberant earth. Stay with God! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again: stay with God! (Psalm 27:13-14 MSG)
Lord, open our eyes to see Your glory today. Give us the grace to look up, to find Your fingerprints all over creation. Fill us up with light as we wait on Your return. Amen.
