"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and they are safe." (Proverbs 18:10 NASB 1995)
Strong towers don’t mean much to us in modern times. Most of us live in locked houses with Nest cameras and security systems. In ancient times, though, a strong tower was a means of surveillance and safety. Its occupants would be uplifted and protected. From a high vantage point, they could see the enemy’s movements clearly, yet with a well-designed entrance, a tower could be impenetrable.

This is a great way for us to think about our relationship with the living God. When concern and circumstance poise to attack, we can run straight into the security of His name. We bolt the door and climb the stairs in prayer; reinforcing our soul in the never-failing promises of God.
Then, from our new vantage point in the heavenly places, we can gain a better view of exactly what the enemy is trying to accomplish. (Spoiler; he’s routinely attempting to steal our peace, sow relational discord and bait us with temptation.) As long as we stay in God’s presence, we experience His protection. The doors are locked and the enemy can’t gain entrance. The name of the Lord is a secure place for our souls to rest.
"For you have been a tower of refuge for me, a tower of strength against my enemy." (Psalm 61:3 NASB 1995)
Lord, today we recognize the strength and security of You name. Please forgive us for not running to You more readily. We live at great risk when we attempt to exist on our own. Thank You for uplifting us, protecting us, and most wondrously, loving us. May we become and remain enamored with Your name. Amen.
