Prince of Peace

“For unto us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 NIV)

We name a baby with high hopes for who they might become, right? We name them with the audacious belief that they may grow into this great name. This is not the case with Jesus. Jesus was named because of who He already was. The names given in this scripture are descriptors of His already proven character.

One of these names in this list is Prince of Peace. Prince of Peace is not an optimistic claim on His life and ministry but an accurate description of who Christ is. Peace is a Person and this Person left heaven and lived on earth as an olive branch extended toward humanity. He came as a babe in a manger to grow up and build a bridge of peace between God and man.

We can know peace by knowing the Prince of Peace. The closer we walk with Jesus, the more experience His peace. Isn’t that a tremendous comfort today?

“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into pryers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV)

Lord, today we are grateful again for the peace that You possess and personify. We a glad that You offer Your peace to us. Please forgive us for grabbing hold of worry again when we know You. Let us come close and let Your peace seep into our souls as we cast our cares upon You. Amen.
