Never Sleeping

“He will not let your foot slip – He would watches over you will not sleep or slumber; Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither sleep nor slumber.” (Psalm 121:4 NIV)

Sunset over Houston on Saturday evening.

The God of the universe never so much as closes His eyes on His kids. He never nods off or falls asleep at the wheel. He is the proverbial parent; pacing the hallways of heaven unto all His kids come home safe and sound.

He is the concerned Father staying awake for the sake of His offspring, yet He is so much more. Awake, but also patient, sovereign and perfect. Us human moms and dads are ever-battling our own expectations and limitations. There’s a lot interfering with our ability to parent effectively. None of this is the case for our Father God. His wide-awareness is not a result of worry; instead it is His divine and flawless nature. He parents us toward His own perfection.

So breathe a sigh of relief. Dear old Dad is constantly on the lookout for us. He is watching, waiting, and working on a way for all His kids to come home at once. We are never alone in this world for a minute; We are treasured and tracked and on a trajectory toward Him.

“The Lord will keep you form all harm – He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:7-8 NIV)

Lord, we are so glad for Your constant watchful eye. What comfort You continuously provide! Help us walk in confident trust as we make our way toward You. Amen.
