“God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT)
Have you ever seen StarWars?
What a silly question, of course you have. 😛
Do you recall the scene where Han and Leia and Luke find themselves inside a trash compactor? The walls are closing in and they are clamoring to find a way out.
Sometimes life feels a lot like that scene. There’s something unseen in the water trying to eat you. The trash is piling up and threatening to crush you before the walls can do their worst. We attempt to halt the crushing, but often human effort is as effective as the metal rod that Han and Leia attempted to jam the compactor with; futile. We feel hopeless.
It’s in those fear-filled moments that the Lord reminds us to look up. He always provides a way out. He is abundantly, entirely faithful.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2 NLT)
I had been contemplating this thought all afternoon yesterday, and then, in the hustle between buildings, my soul caught a glimpse of the sunset. There were heavy clouds half-obscuring the scene; dark storm clouds. On second look, I realized that they were scurrying away as the crayola colors of golden hour washed over the earth. “Look up!” the voice in my soul encouraged, “Help is on the way!”
“The Lord will keep you from all harm, He will each over Your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:8 NLT)
The truth is, He is Lord over the trash compactor today and eternity tomorrow. He is faithful. We can trust Him completely. We must only look up.
Lord, we thank You for Your faithfulness. You have us. Even when it feels as though the walls are closing in, You still have us. You are Lord over today and forever. We trust in You. Amen.
